19 More Diagnosed with Fungal Meningitis

Filed October 17th, 2012 Laurie

Another 19 people have been diagnosed with fungal meningitis that likely came from tainted vials of a steroid medication manufactured at the New England Compounding Center (NECC).

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data 233 people have been sickened nationwide. The death toll currently stands at 15.

The new cases include six in Tennessee; two in Florida, Indiana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Ohio; and one in Maryland, Michigan, and Virginia, said Reuters.

Reuters says it has expanded its outbreak investigation to include other drugs produced by NECC. Not only does NECC face multiple investigations, it also likely faces multiple lawsuits.
