FDA Objects to Viagra Advertising

Filed April 22nd, 2008 amy

Pfizer’s online ad for to the tune of an Elvis Presley song is drawing FDA objections, but not about the King himself.

In a warning letter to Pfizer, posted to the FDA website Monday, the FDA said, “The video raises public health and safety concerns through its complete omission of risk information for Viagra by suggesting that Viagra is safer than has been demonstrated.”

Pfizer reportedly responded that the omission of side effects warnings was “due to a technical error” on CNN’s Web site, www.cnn.com, which ran the advertisement.

Viagra has some serious side effects, including sudden vision and hearing loss, as well as other dangerous health problems which may be experienced by heart patients taking nitrates.
