Herbal Give Care Issues Recall for Three Supplements with Undeclared Ingredients

Filed August 22nd, 2013 Joshua Sophy

A Texas herbal supplement maker has issued a “voluntary recall” on several of its products because they were found to contain undeclared pharmaceuticals.

Herbal Give Care LLC issued a statement this week notifying the public of the callback on the following products:

* Esbelder fem (30 capsules): Packaged in white plastic bottle with screw cap. Contains 30 capsules per bottle. All lots included in recall. Esbelder fem was distributed nationwide to retail customers and through online sales. It has a UPC code: 7502011000251.

* Esbelder man (30 capsules): Packaged in white plastic bottle with screw cap. Contains 30 capsules per bottle. Esbelder man was distributed nationwide to retail customers and through online sales. Its UPC code is: 7502011000275.

* Esbelder Siloutte (30 capsules): Packaged in white plastic bottle with screw cap. Contains 30 capsules per bottle. Esbelder Siloutte was distributed across the country to retail customers and online. Its UPC code is: 7502011000268.

These supplements include the following undeclared ingredients and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration considers supplements with hidden ingredients to be unapproved drugs: Sibutramine, N-Desmethylsibutramine, and N-di-Desmethylsibutramine.

Though the agency doesn’t have much reach over the dietary and herbal supplements industry, based on our previous reports, it is illegal for a company to market products that the FDA considers unapproved drugs.

Herbal Give Care said in its press release announcing the recall that it has notified its customers of the call back. A letter will be mailed and a phone call placed to notify customers, the company said.
