NECC Recalls 1,200 Drugs in Wake of Meningitis Outbreak

Filed October 10th, 2012 Laurie

The New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Massachusetts (NECC)—the likely culprit in a growing, nationwide fungal meningitis outbreak—just recalled all of its products.

NECC recalled some 1,200 different products, which includes 17,000 steroids. This after health officials said 13,000 of the steroids distributed to 23 states could be infected with the disease, said The Merrimack Patch.

The compounding center is licensed to distribute in all 50 states. Nationwide, 137 people have contracted fungal meningitis believed linked to NECC steroid injections; 12 people have died in nine states. We expect the numbers, which have been rising in recent days, to continue to climb, and we will continue to keep you informed.
