Recalled Supplements Pose Salmonella Risk

Filed July 2nd, 2012 Laurie

The Food and Drug Administration has announced the recall of Cataplex ACP, Cataplex C, and Pancreatrophin PMG Dietary Supplements because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
The maker of the supplements, Standard Process, is pulling the following products from shelves:

• Cataplex ACP (Product number 0700 and 0750) Lot 114
• Cataplex C (Product number 1650 1655) Lot 114
• Pancreatrophin PMG (Product number 6650) Lot 114

It was revealed that some of the products potentially contained the bacteria during routine testing. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Healthy individuals generally recover without medical attention, but the food-borne illness can be deadly to young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The tablets were distributed in 60 cc and 200 cc amber glass bottles with Best-By dates of 5/13 indicated on both the bottles and their boxes. The supplements were sold to consumers through health care professionals.
Consumers who purchased any of the affected lots are encouraged to return the products to their point of purchase to for a full refund. Anyone with additional questions can contact Standard Process Inc. at 866-397-3237.
